Changed Beyond All Recognition?worpole{at}dircon.co.uk The writer Ken Worpole discusses some of the exciting new developments in public library architecture which have caught the public imagination in recent years, particularly in areas of urban regeneration. However, while many politicians and planners see library buildings and services as playing a key role in civic renewal, there are still dangers that a preoccupation with design, along with economic pressures to adapt a more market-driven approach, may lead to the public library being changed beyond all recognition.
